Compensation advice for individuals

Having been in hundreds of compensation conversations, I can say with confidence that most people aren't very good at negotiating their own compensation.

Part of it is information: they may not know where the market is trending, how their offer compares, or how to think about equity.

But a lot of it is also personal. People are worried about damaging a relationship or are haunted by a past negotiation that backfired or by an equity grant that ended up worth nothing. It's hard to keep perspective and hard to find someone objective to talk it through with.

After years on the company side of these conversations, I'm stepping across the table.

Why talk to me

Who I can help

I'm most useful to senior ICs, directors, executives, and founder-adjacent leaders at venture-backed tech companies.

If you're interviewing for a new role and wondering

Is this actually a good offer?

Is the equity grant meaningful?

What should I negotiate for? How hard should I push?

Or you're already in a role and have questions about your compensation

“They said my equity is worth $X. Is it?”

“My base is below market but my equity is high. How should I think about that?”

“Should I ask for more, or am I already being paid fairly?”
